Event Description
The IOA's 2024 Winter Seminar will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the Ritz Charles, 12156 N. Meridian Street, Carmel, Indiana. This optometric continuing education event offers seven hours of in-person IOB credit (6 hours are Legend Drug).

What's My Beef with Pharmacists

Many optometrists have a history of friction and frustration when communicating with pharmacists. These problems commonly stem from a lack of mutual understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the pharmacist and the optometrist. This lecture will clarify the responsibilities of each practitioner. These responsibilities include the welfare of the patient, avoidance of drug dosing and selection errors. The lecture will cover, in a case-based format, proper drug selection and dosing calculations for normal and special populations, i.e. pregnant patients and pediatric patients.  1 Hour IOB and Legend Drug, Pharmacology

Grand Rounds: Interactive Therapeutics-My MOST! Challenging Cases

This is a case-based, interactive lecture that covers a broad selection of difficult diagnostic/treatment decisions. Cases range from neurologic to anterior segment. Mismanagement of these cases could lead to both death and blindness yet can present to any practicing optometrist. The lecture covers management practices and guidelines that help the practicing Doctor of Optometry obtain a proper diagnosis and management plan to prevent catastrophic outcomes.  2 Hours IOB and Legend Drug, Trmt/Mgmt. Uveitis 2024

Uveitis is a common problem seen in daily optometric practice. This course will review foundational uveitis concepts, traditional therapies, as well as update the attendees on emerging and future therapies that will enhance their ability to care for patients presenting with this condition.  1 Hour IOB and Legend Drug, Trmt/Mgmt. Glaucoma: A Technology-Guided, Doctor-Driven and Patient-Centered Approach 
Andrew Rixon, OD, Memphis, TN
The management of patients with various forms of glaucoma has been greatly enhanced by the emergence of various technologies. However, the interpretation of that technology still requires diligence on the part of the clinician. Multiple technologies and an honest depiction of their limitations will be discussed with an emphasis on diagnosis and longitudinal management employing holistic patient care.  2 Hours IOB and Legend Drug, Glaucoma
 
4 – 5 pm
Fundamentals of Vision and Driving
Laura K. Windsor, OD, Hartford City, IN
This course will be an in-depth look at vision and driving in Indiana. Visual acuities, visual fields, cognitive problems, physical limitations and other issues will be reviewed. This course will look at the different regulations and restrictions on driving by the BMV and what visual fields to perform when they are required. We will discuss all forms of driving licensure in Indiana including restricted, waivered and bioptic. 1 Hour IOB

Requests made between Jan. 25 and Feb. 6, 2024, will receive a 75% refund. No refunds will be made after Feb. 6, 2024.
