SPEAKERS
Thomas Ciulla, M.D. – Carmel, IN
Anna Bedwell, O.D. – Indianapolis, IN
Joseph Pizzimenti, O.D. – Orlando, FL
Carlo Pelino, O.D. – Philadelphia, PA

7:00 – 8:00 am – Registration and Continental Breakfast
8:00 – 9:00 am – BONUS HOUR
Real World OCT: Subtle Findings with Critical Implications Ciulla
Clinicians must become comfortable rapidly and accurately interpreting “real world” OCT images in busy clinic settings, with typical limitations involving system capabilities, operator skill, ocular media clarity, and patient cooperation. In this course, the basics behind retinal OCT are reviewed, followed by normal anatomic correlations and then OCT assessment of retinal conditions. In addition, a “real-world” OCT case series will be presented, derived from a typical retina clinic setting, demonstrating common but subtle findings that carry prognostic significance and/or impact management. This case series is organized by anatomic location of findings, from inner retina to outer retina. Specifically, this series reviews OCT findings commonly mistaken for cystoid macular edema, OCT depictions of ellipsoid zone disruptions correlating with symptomatic functional vision loss, and OCT demonstrations of the variations in retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) elevations that carry diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic implications. 1 Hour IOB and Legend Drug
9:00 – 11:00 am
Ground Rounds in Multimodal Imaging Pizzimenti & Pelino
Using a case-based format, this course provides clinically relevant information about the use of multimodal imaging in the diagnosis and management of posterior segment, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmic and other eye diseases. Multimodal imaging combining OCT/OCTA, ultrawide-field photography, FAF and other technologies is illustrated in each real patient case. The emphasis is on interpretation of results and clinical applications. 2 Hours IOB & Legend Drug
11:00 am – Noon
Topical Pharmacotherapy of Ocular Disease Pizzimenti & Pelino
The ability to use pharmaceutical agents has enabled optometrists to become true primary health care providers. This course focuses on the use of drugs that are topically applied. Clinical cases are used to illustrate indications, mechanisms of action, contraindications, adverse effects, and dosage of these therapeutic agents. The goal of this course is to provide current and accurate information about key topical drugs that are used to treat common eye diseases. 1 Hour IOB & Legend Drug
Noon – 1:00 pm – LUNCH included for ODs
1:00 – 2:00 pm
Systemic Pharmacotherapy of Ocular Disease Pizzimenti & Pelino
The ability to use pharmaceutical agents has enabled optometrists to become true primary health care providers. This course focuses on the use of drugs that are systemically administered. Clinical cases are used to illustrate indications, mechanisms of action, contraindications, adverse effects, and dosage of these therapeutic agents. The goal of this course is to provide current and accurate information about key systemic drugs that are used to treat common eye diseases. 1 Hour IOB & Legend Drug
2:00 – 3:00 pm
Retinal Toxicity: A Review of the Drug Culprits Bedwell
This course examines the mechanisms, imaging findings, and clinical implications of drug-induced retinal toxicity. Emphasis will be placed on the role of multimodal imaging—including SD-OCT and FAF—in detecting early retinal changes. Key culprits such as hydroxychloroquine, pentosan polysulfate sodium, tamoxifen, and various cancer therapies will be reviewed, with a focus on risk factors, screening guidelines, and interpretation of subtle imaging clues. 1 Hour IOB & Legend Drug
3:00 – 4:00 pm
Tug of War at the Retina: Vitreomacular Interface Challenges Bedwell
The advent of OCT has revolutionized our understanding of the vitreomacular interface, offering unprecedented insight into the dynamic process of posterior vitreous detachment. This course explores the spectrum of vitreomacular interface disorders, including vitreomacular traction, epiretinal membranes, and macular holes. Emphasis will be placed on the role of OCT in diagnosis and clinical decision-making, with a review of both surgical and non-surgical management strategies. 1 Hour IOB & Legend Drug
4:00 – 5:00 pm
Under Pressure: Identifying and Managing Papilledema Bedwell
Papilledema is a red flag for increased intracranial pressure, requiring prompt recognition and management. This course will focus on distinguishing true papilledema from its mimickers, understanding the systemic implications, and determining appropriate next steps. Real-world case examples will illustrate how to identify and manage this high-stakes condition, where timely intervention can be critical. 1 Hour IOB and Legend Drug
